Over the years, ddm helped create  new models of permanent and transitional housing where residents with special needs are able to live independently because of the availability of either on-site, or nearby services.  The residences were made possible through mixing social service and capital funding streams and by designing spaces to meet program goals such as the encouragement of healthy behaviors, and the enjoyment of social activities, shared meals, or the outdoor garden.

In 2012, ddm began a project with Sinergia Inc to include 14 apartments for people with developmental disabilities into a four-building rental project.
