In 1996, Long Island East End developer, Dede Gotthelf, sought partners and investors for her purchase of the 30-year-old Southampton Inn. Where others saw a shabby two-story motel, she saw potential for what is now a luxury vacation residence, dining destination and conference center, all on a five acre parcel in the village of Southampton, Long Island.

Working with architects Tobin & Parnes Design Enterprises of Manhattan and Donald Jewell of Long Island’s East End, Catspaw Construction built an octagonal living room/lobby surrounded by open decks overlooking the lawns and added $5 million in improvements to the 99-room hotel and adjoining restaurant and commercial property, the Southampton Inn.
